Can Meditation Help Me Find Purpose?


Let’s begin by first gaining some perspective of purpose and life purpose. I have come to realise that our purpose in life is not something that we do. It is rather a way of being. It is an internal inner energy that flows through us, guiding us. We can’t find purpose - rather it is that purpose finds us.

I have personally found that meditation, and more specifically Effortless Meditation is a pathway towards freedom, personal liberation and purpose.

Our perceived sense of purpose may be rooted in authenticity and past programming.

The thing is that all human beings arrive into adulthood with a socially-emotionally conditioned mindset. We ALL arrive into adulthood with an ego. We all arrive into adulthood with stored ‘stuff’, programmed conditioning within our mind, societal expectations and the list goes on. This is all stored within our subconscious and our subconscious unknowingly determines so many things about us and what we choose to do. We don’t even realise how programmed we are within our subconscious mind.

Sometimes people think they have found what motivates them in life and what gives them life force energy. They have a perceived sense of purpose which may be rooted in authenticity and past programming. Because of our subconscious programming, we are being motivated by things outside of ourselves because of something we are externally receiving.

For example:

  • receiving praise or validation for completing tasks

  • money from working

  • avoiding punishment, or social rejection

  • awards, pay rises, certificates, winning

  • social status

 

How Effortless Meditation Can Help You Find Purpose

Meditation, and more specifically Effortless Meditation CAN help you find authentic life purpose - it is not necessarily and easy path but it is one of authenticity.

What happens when you consistently show up to meditation daily, is that over time you are clearing out your stored ‘stuff’. You are clearing out our stored and programmed conditioning and untangling this from your subconscious. Over time, you are clearing this stuff up and able to explore what is actually true for you and what actually motivates you from within. With consistent meditation practice, you can tap into what motivates you intrinsically, rather than what motivates you extrinsically. What a gift to live life in deep authenticity.

 
 

My own story of finding purpose through Effortless Meditation

It has become clear to me that my biggest motivators in life have been validation/being liked. I am extremely motivated by receiving validation and praise from others - something that was deeply programmed into my mind since such a young age. I avoid things that contain the possibility of rejection from others. This inner need for acquiring validation and social status had become a real drive for how I sought purpose in life (or what I thought was purposeful).

During my twenties, I was able to spend a lot of my time travelling and I managed to make it to over 50 countries (likely driven by my inner sense of unworthiness and my desire to FEEL worthy). In 2023 I decided to take a 6-month long trip through Central America.. this trip felt very different from the others. On this trip, I was met with a deep sense of purposelessness. The travel was amazing in a multitude of ways, despite this, some deeper questions of ‘WHY am I doing this?’ continued to surface. During my travels, I felt a little like I was in limbo land. Sort of in a dream, doing cool stuff and seeing things but unsure of if it was even what I truly wanted to be doing. This is when I began to notice the subtleties of feeling ‘purposeless’.

At this point, I had been meditating for 2 years and it soon became clear that the programmed conditioned parts of me sought to travel because it gave me a large sense of worthiness and external validation. After meditating every day over 2 years, I removed this need for external validation and I was instead met with a sense of purposelessness.

Feeling this sense of purposelessness was valuable because the prospect of living without a profound sense of purpose instilled deep-seated fears. As I grappled with this uncomfortable reality, a realization emerged—attempting to derive purpose from external sources was a fleeting and ultimately futile endeavour. In acknowledging purposelessness as a valid and essential aspect of the human experience, I started to unravel its layers. Instead of fearing it, I chose to explore and feel its weight in my body with unwavering presence. The discomfort became a gateway to understanding, paving the way for a deeper exploration of the self.

The pathway to discovering true authentic purpose is to first clear our programmed conditioning and find what feels purposeless. This allows you to recalibrate.

 

Reclaiming True Purpose through Effortless Meditation

Essentially, Effortless Meditation serves as the key to untangling ourselves from societal conditioning and programmed minds. It unravels the subconscious drivers that often dictate our perceived purpose. By clearing our mental space of conditioning and external motivators, we open a pathway to our authentic purpose. As we delve into the depths of meditation, we unravel the layers of subconscious influences, paving the way for genuine purpose to emerge.

Effortless meditation, therefore, is not merely a practice; it is a gateway to self-discovery and purposeful living. Clearing the clutter of external motivators unveils the uncharted territories within, allowing us to navigate the path toward genuine purpose with newfound clarity.
